Everyone faces challenges, some harder than others. How we prepare for and respond to
adverse events is our decision and choice (mostly.) Resilience, “bouncing back better”, is a
useful attribute, for individuals as well as for communities, organizations and nations. The
sermon summarizes a few individual and community-related perspectives, skills and practices
that can help many individuals develop more resilience. However, individual resilience should
never be considered as a cure-all, or as a panacea or substitute for broader community and
governmental preparation, planning and mitigation for adverse events. As a congregation, we
are also taking steps towards being more proactive and resilient, which is very timely.
