Listen, People of the Earth

Rev. Dr. Pippin WhitakerLast week marked the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous means “of the earth,” and anyone might claim to be of the earth. Yet, what would that mean? Consider where you are. What is the story, the ancient history of the land? How have you cared for the land, nurtured its ecosystems, told stories about it, defended it? Are you more of the earth, or more on the earth? Join this service as we open our hearts and minds to what it means to be of the Earth, to listen to indigenous peoples, and to become of the Earth.

Free to Be Me and You

June is Pride Month. It’s a month to recognize and accept this diverse community that is characterized by a shared culture, social movements, and a focus on individuality. An introductory discussion for the month begins with recognizing how people are different and why that’s okay. Each of us is born in a different time and place and has a different heredity and environment. The product of the choices made by those factors makes us who we are: Free to be you and me.
