Overview

The President-Elect is elected by the Membership at the Annual Meeting for a three year term first as President-Elect, then as President and finally as Past President. Each term begins July 1st.  In the absence of the President, the President-Elect presides over all meetings of the Board and Congregation and becomes President if the office of President becomes vacant during the President’s normal term.

 

Time Commitment

Attends all Board Meetings, Executive Committee Meetings, the Annual Meeting and any special meetings called by the President. The President-Elect must also be ready and willing to perform additional duties determined by the President and must be able to assume all duties performed by the President if the President is unable to do so.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Attends all Board Meetings prepared to discuss all agenda items
  • Becomes thoroughly familiar with the program and management operations of the congregation
  • Performs all duties of a Board Trustee
  • Is a member of the Executive Committee
  • Presides over all meetings of the Board and Congregation in the absence of the President
  • Becomes President if the office of President becomes vacant during the President’s normal term.
  • Participates with the Finance Committee, the Board and the Minister in the preparation of the budget for the upcoming financial year
  • Promotes denominational connections with the UUA and other congregations
  • Helps develop and maintain and reviews annually the UUCC Policies and Procedures Manual and Board Manual
  • Serves as a non-voting advisory member of the Endowment Committee if President is unable to serve
  • Helps the President plan and execute the annual Board Retreat
  • Signs legal documents approved by the Board on behalf of the Congregation, in the absence of the President
  • May perform other duties as described in the Bylaws, determined by the Board or determined in cooperation with the President

 

Qualifications

  • Is a member in good standing of the Congregation
  • Models behavior that supports the mission of the Congregation
  • Has proven leadership and mediation ability
  • Has an active and sustained engagement in the life of the Congregation
  • Has excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Unitarian Universalism
  • Has a working knowledge of the Bylaws and Policies of the Congregation
