Fashion-&-Dog Show

Fashion-&-Dog Show

Date: 10/05/2025 Time: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Sunday, October 5, 5pm, Lincoln St. Tunnel near Columbia’s Vista

UUCC publicity for Pawlenciaga is sponsored by the Animal Ministry Committee.  Blake Carlton (known to many of you as “Susan Robinson’s son”), who grew up attending UUCC and has been attending again for the past several months, after recently returning to the Columbia area, is organizing a Fashion-&-Dog Show featuring dogs from the Columbia Animal Services shelter. The idea is to promote local fashion design and models while also helping to find homes for shelter dogs.

Please purchase tickets to “Pawlenciaga,” the inaugural Larry Carlton Fashion-&-Dog Show! (Larry Carlton is Blake’s late uncle, who was an avid animal lover and who adopted stray dogs he found on the street. Blake wants to honor his uncle by continuing Larry’s legacy by supporting dog adoption.) Falling on the same day as UUCC’s annual Animal Blessing service, Reverend Steven Robinson will bless the shelter dogs after they strut their stuff down the runway.

So, support local fashion designers and models, adopt a dog, and/or contribute to Columbia Animal Services shelter from 5-9 pm on Sunday, October 5th, at the Lincoln St. Tunnel near Columbia’s Vista. Tickets are available here (or use the QR code provided). In-person and virtual tickets are available. Alternatively, you can make a donation to the cause by going to the same link. Majority Rules, A Documentary

Majority Rules, A Documentary

Date: 10/12/2025 Time: 12:15 pm – 1:15 pm

Check out “Majority Rules,” a thought-provoking documentary that delves into how Alaska abandoned the traditional political playbook and revolutionized the way elections are conducted. Good-bye party primaries, hello ranked-choice voting.
From surprise elections to political shakeups (yes, Sarah Palin is part of this story), Majority Rules reveals what happens when a state decides to put power back in the hands of the people. Hear from real leaders like Senator Lisa Murkowski and Former Rep. Mary Peltola as they navigate a system designed to give voters more voice and more choice. Rank Choice Voting is a simple upgrade to the way that we vote that allows you to rank your candidates in the order that you prefer, as many or as few as you want. It’s a simple change that produces dramatic effects, ranging from reduced polarization to increased representation and the elimination of the spoiler effect, and it’s overall beneficial for democracy. It gives voters more choice and more voice on their ballots.

If you’re into democracy, political reform, or just want to understand how things could be better, this is your must-watch! Join us in the sanctuary after the service on Sunday, October 12th, for the 30-minute version and/or at 6:30 pm on Friday, October 17th, for the full-length version, both followed by a Q&A session with Nicole Sanchez and Marcurius Byrd of the Better Ballot Initiative.

We look forward to seeing you and learning about Rank Choice Voting together! For more information, contact .
