Community Garden Proposal Process
There can be many benefits to a community garden including reducing food transportation costs, reducing food waste through composting, providing educational opportunities, and promoting plant-based diets.
However, any major project that is not properly planned can have a negative impact on the grounds (The UUCC recently dedicated considerable resources to removing and remediating a previous garden.)
Responding to renewed interest in a community garden on the UUCC grounds, the Building and Grounds Committee will entertain proposals that address the following:
What
A description of the proposed garden including size, materials, proposed crops, and distribution of produce.
Where
Where will the garden be located? Please refer to the Master Landscape Plan Include a description of the impact on other UUCC activities (Blessing of the Animals, Halloween Fair, etc.)
How and Who
Who will create the garden? How will the garden be maintained (including weeding and watering)? What are the costs for construction and maintenance and where to those funds come from? What is the impact on lawn maintenance?
