Confessions of a Clergy Wife
On Monday, May 17 at 7pm, please join us via Zoom for “Confessions of a Clergy Wife” written & performed by Barbara Bates Smith! Video by Jeff Sebens. A question-and-answer session with Barbara will follow the video presentation.
A stage version of the video has been the focus of a National Episcopal Convention, Diocesan retreats, fundraisers, ecumenical gatherings, churches, and theaters.
Barbara’s late husband Russell, physician-turned-minister, served at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Canton, North Carolina. In the video, Barbara presents her letter to her priest explaining why as a “clergy wife”, she doesn’t attend church. She questions and salutes both her husband and her therapist as she quotes Vietnamese Buddhist leader Thich Nhat Hanh and Mythologist Joseph Campbell.
“The show is a zinger…compelling, authentic, brave” says Frank Levering, D.D., Harvard.
Judith Toy, Buddhist leader, says “intelligent,” “spirit fed,” “hilarious!”
The Reverend Tim McRee, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, called it “Outstanding!”
